Patuxent River Naval Air Station 

Naval Air Station Patuxent River is located in St. Mary’s County at the mouth of the Patuxent River.  NASPaxRiver was commissioned in 1943 and employs 800 people who are assigned to the air station’s staff. It also hosts the Naval Air Systems Command (NAVAIR) and Naval Air Warfare Center Aircraft Division headquarters along with 50 other tenant activities. There are more than 20,000 military and civilian employees working at the air station, and its the largest employer in the county.

Webster Field

Webster Outlying Field is located 12 miles southwest of the Naval Air Station Patuxent River. It is home to the Naval Air Warfare Center Aircraft Division, Coast Guard Station St. Inigoes and a component of the Maryland Army National Guard.

Naval Support Facility Indian Head

Naval Support Facility Indian Head is the oldest Southern Maryland Navy facility and home to more than six major commands. Established in 1890 as a gun test facility, it has expanded to include research and development activities as well as operational support programs. Located in Charles County, there are approximately 670 active duty military personnel, 2,106 Department of Defense civilian employees and 500 contractors working at the facility. The Naval Support Facility is the second largest employer in Charles County.​

Joint Base Andrews

Andrews Air Force Base and the Naval Air Facility Washington combined in 2009 as a joint base called Joint Base Andrews. Located in Prince George’s County, it is under the jurisdiction of the United States Air Force 11th Wing. It is well known for serving as home base for Air Force One. Established in 1942, the base employs nearly 11,000 people and is home to 5,791 active duty Air Force, 234 active duty Navy, 16 Marines, 55 active duty Army and 10,000 family members. 

Naval Support Facility (NSF) Dahlgreen

Located in Virginia about 68 miles south of Washington and across the Harry Nice Bridge from Charles County, Naval Support Facility Dahlgren has 360 active duty military, 4,600 civilian employees and 1,800 contactors. Established in 1918 as the Naval Proving Ground, it still serves as one of the Navy’s top research and development laboratories. It is home to seven Navy and Department of Defense commands.​
