Advice to students on pathways to internships at NAS Patuxent River:

  • One should pursue a position within NAVAIR for the following reasons: opportunities for career and job growth, the federal salaries are competitive with the private sector, job stability, and employee benefits.

All below hiring announcements will be posted via USAJOBS website http://www.USAJOBS.gov.

Different Hiring Actions:

  • Student Program - NAVAIR’s Pathways Internship Program - Person must be enrolled and in a degree program that meets the command’s position requirements.

  • Recent Graduate Programs

  • Engineer Scientist Development Program (ESDP) - Person seeking entry-level engineer and science civilian position.

  • Naval Acquisition Intern Program (NAIP) – Person seeking entry-level finance, contracting, logistics, science and engineering position.

  • Experience and education is imperative in seeking employment in today’s highly competitive work environment.  Grade point average is important as well since there is a large number of college graduates seeking employment.   In addition, working part-time while receiving formal education will allow an individual to apply their education in their work tasking.

  • An applicant seeking employment within the NAVAIR community can become part of the NAVAIR team as a military, civil servant, or contractor employee.

  • Contractor positions are typically announced under many employment job engines, such as Indeed, Simplyhired, Monster, and Career Builder to name a few or an individual can contact NAVAIR’s Human Resource Department for a listing of contractors with addresses.

Recommendations for individuals seeking employment:

  • Written and verbal communication is key when an individual is applying for any position.  The applicant should make a connection using their written and verbal (Interview) skills, which will set them apart from others.  Hiring officials will review the applicant’s resume for organization, strong verbs, education for the specific position, and experience related to the position, which assists the hiring official in determination of who will be interviewed.   If the applicant receives a request for an interview, it is important for the interviewee to do their homework related to the organization and position.  The interviewee needs to able to demonstrate their knowledge and interest of the position, and what sets them apart from others being interviewed.  In addition, I highly recommend the individual network within the community they are seeking employment, such as attending recruitment events, visiting NAVAIR’s Human Resource Department (hiring specialists), applying to open positions using the USA JOBs website, and registering for other job employment-related search engines.   Also, the applicant should always send a thank you note after an interview.  This demonstrates continued interest and thoughtfulness to the interviewer or interview panel.
