ADVICE FOR STUDENTS

Internships at military facilities can provide students with experiences in many different careers.  Additionally, these internships will allow students to make connections with many adults in their chosen career field, thus potentially leading to future employment opportunities.

I would imagine potential employers are looking for students who take very rigorous high school program of study.  Students would do well to enroll in the advanced science and math courses especially.  Additionally, participating in either the Biomedical Sciences program or the Pathway to Engineering program would show employers that you are serious about your future.

While writing a resume, a student should consult with either a school counselor or a career advisor, depending upon what your high school has available.  Generally speaking, on a resume, you want to be brief, but also thorough.  Include everything that pertains to whatever employment opportunity you are seeking.

While preparing for an interview it would be important to do the following:

  • Be punctual.

  • Dress professionally.

  • Learn as much about the company as you can.

  • Try to think of answers to some of the more typical interview questions like:

    • Why do you wish to work for us?

    • What do you feel your strengths are?

    • What would be your biggest weakness or area for growth?
